What makes a whole village just disappear leaving behind everything they own? It would have to be something quite big after all put yourself in those shoes for a moment... what could make up just up and leave your home and all you own behind as if in a major hurry to get away. There is always something very eerie about ghost towns. One of the most famous disappearance cases is the story of the lost colony of Roanoke. I think there is probably some rational explanation for disappearances but the stories are interesting and a bit freaky.
Here is a link with some stories of strange disappearances on it cus i'm too lazy to write it all out myself

Wow, bizarre story.
I can understand more "recent" disappearances from like the 1800s on when fires wiped out entire towns, gold/oil/whatever booms went bust, etc., so it wasn't uncommon for people to just get up and leave their stuff behind, but this was a few centuries before those times, even
Here's a good example of a famous ghost town in California, actually there appears to be several more videos of the place since I last looked (think there was only two when I first heard of it), don't know how the others are. I'd love to be able to go there some day

wow fascinating!! The creepiest part was seeing the dishes and stuff still on the table. It would be cool to visit a place like that for sure.

I think some of the stuff was planted there for effect, as someone had commented a while back about the old car just "happened" to be at the gas station (I think), I think that part's b. s. But if not, yeah, since most of the "wild west" stories didn't really happen, most of the time towns were boring, leisure items like books and all were scarce and/or expensive, but supposedly there were a lot of murders and all there at the place, so it actually lived up to it's reputation.
The dishes and all were probably in the houses as it was, but probably not all were set out at the table(s) though, I suspect.

that was an interesting story, sorry to change the subject but has anyone heard of the mary celeste?,its a ship that was discovered floating (of course) one day after being reported missing for weeks, the crew had gone,no sign of a struggle and even the table set ready for tea,all the necesities were still on board..what made them go?
but anyway,it must be awesome living in America or Britain, cause they are so old they have a lot of interesting history where Australia has only been settled for a few hundred years and basically no history at all, well none of interest or major things that happened......as i said it must be awesome living in countrys that are centuries old....

Actually, it isn't really much of a mystery, but it's such a cool place I couldn't help but post it.

On the Roanoke mystery, the single word Croaton was written on a tree. This was a known tribe of Indians. Some speculate that these Indians took them hostage. Also noticed was later that some of the Croaton Indians young was born with blues eyes.

Whoah, creepy stories and I have heard of the Roanoke coloney before. It was on Digging for the trurh one time and I find it quite fascinating. Though I dont know what happen to the settlers, they could have died from diseases or were captered by natives. Maybe it was E.T lol.

HAH! You didn't do a link to a woman who rides her motorcycle through there, though!
Check it out when you have time though, looks to be like 40-50 pages (more or less), it's really grown since I was last there. Creepy pictures of barges just floating in water and helicopters that will never be used and all

I think things like this are a reminder of the things that are really important in life. What is scary with Chernobyl is that something like that melt down could happen anywhere. The images are quite haunting and sad.
What is ironic is that it means wormwood which also the bible talks about in the book of revelations.
